Are there prerequisites for the accredited bicycle courses?

Certificate II in Bicycle Mechanical Technology does not have any pre-requisites. Students wanting into the Certificate III in Bicycle Workshop Operations need to complete the Certificate II course first. The wheel building or suspension servicing require previous advanced service and repair skills.

Are there prerequisites for the non accredited training?

We don't require that students take the basic service class before the advanced repair class. However, we find that students do better in the advanced repair class if they already have at least some basic experience as home mechanics. If you don't have some basic mechanics skills, or if you're not confident in your skills, you will definitely benefit from taking the rider maintenance or the Basic Servicing class first.

What about class size and student/teacher ratio?

We limit the class size to 10 students in the rider maintenance and basic servicing classes, and 8 in the Advanced service and repair course.

Do I need to bring any books or other materials to class?

We provide all manuals and study materials for our mechanics classes, and the cost is included with your tuition, so there are no additional materials you need to purchase before attending and no hidden costs. But you should bring materials for taking notes.

How should I dress for class?

You will be in a workshop environment, so dress in comfortable work or casual clothes, and wear sensible shoes! No open-toed shoes are allowed in the classroom. BMTI will provide shop aprons, gloves and protective eyewear when necessary.

When can I work on my own bike?

If you are enrolled in our Basic Servicing Course you are encouraged to bring your own bicycle. If you are in the advanced course most of the training is on bicycles we provide for you. However you will be able to bring your bicycle in on the 4th day for servicing.

Do I receive a certificate upon completion of the class?

Yes. All students who successfully complete any of our classes receive a Certificate of Completion. Students enrolled in the Certificate II in Bicycle Mechanical Technology will receive a nationally accredited Certificate and record of results

Can I get a job after completing this training?

Many graduates of the accredited training have gone on to become successful shop mechanics or are working with outdoor education companies servicing bicycles. We regularly receive calls from shops, distributors and manufacturers looking for our graduates.

How many days training is the Certificate II in Bicycle Mechanical Technology?

8 days practical + theory

What if I enrol in a course and cant make it, can I get a refund?

A full refund of enrolment fees will be made if a course is cancelled by BMTI. If you are unable to make your course and you notify us before the course commences you may transfer your enrolment to another class or receive a refund.
