What is this course about?
The Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation (SIS20213) is a Board of Studies approved course designed to enable students to develop a range of technical, vocational and interpersonal competencies valued both within and beyond the workplace.

Who can do this course?

This course is available to anyone who is physically capable of completing.


Groups camp in bush campsites as well as in designated Murramarang National Park camping sites.  Residential accommodation is offered at the Australian National University’s (ANU) Kioloa Coastal Campus.

Students will be required to provide their own transport to the start of the program.  All transportation from there until the end of the program will be provided by 5 Star Training & Consulting

Can we have a course conducted in our local area?

Yes – if you have a group of 6 or more students from your local area we are able to conduct courses at times that suit your  needs.

Included is all catering and dietary requirements for all programs.  5 Star Training & Consulting adheres to the Australia & New Zealand Food Standards Code, meeting, in particular, Standards 3.2.2 (Food Safety Practices & General Requirements) and Standard 3.2.3 (Food Premises & Equipment).

What equipment do I need to bring?
All equipment including tents, packs, sleeping mats, trangias (for cooking) and activity equipment including all canoeing, surfing equipment etc is provided.  Students wear appropriate clothing for activities and will be given a clothing and accessories list upon enrolment.  Students are able to use their own equipment.  Please discuss this with us prior to the course.

Where are the programs conducted?

Outdoor education programs, curriculum based field studies, school camps and recreation programs in four key locations across New South Wales: Sydney Harbour, the Illawarra, Murramarang National Park (Bateman’s Bay) and Blue Mountains  National Park.

What are the group sizes?

The program has a maximum group size of 12 students  There are 2–3 qualified and experienced teachers at all times.

What do you need to get the complete Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation?

First program – 8 days (Bushwalking, Canoeing, Surfing)


Second program – 8 days (First Aid and Roping)
