Certificate II Outdoor Leadership - Sea Kayaking

Enrolments are now open for the Certificate II Outdoor Leadership - Sea Kayaking course in Batemans Bay. The course is delivered with a theory component and 8 days of practical training. Dates for the course are 28th April - 5th May 2024.

DESCRIPTION

This course is designed for people working or wanting to work in the Outdoor Industry, specifically to gain work in the outdoor recreation tourism industry. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who assist with operational logistics and the delivery of recreational activities. They work under supervision and with guidance from those responsible for planning, finalising and delivering activities, including program managers and leaders.

COURSE DATES

28th April 2024 – 5th May 2024.

TRAINING LOCATION

Region X - 6 Russell St, Batemans Bay NSW.

ELIGIBILITY/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You must meet one of the following criteria:

- previous Flat Water Canoeing qualification

- previous Flat Water Kayaking qualification

- equivalent experience in Canoeing or Kayaking

Program content:

11 units must be completed:

4 core units

7 elective units

SISOFLD001 Assist in conducting recreation sessions

SISOFLD002 Minimise environmental impact

SISXIND002 Maintain sport, fitness and recreation industry knowledge

Elective Units

SISCAQU002 Perform basic water rescues

SISOCNE001 Paddle a craft using fundamental skills

SISOKYS001 Paddle a sea kayak in enclosed waters

SISOKYS002 Paddle a sea Kayak in sheltered coastal waters

SISOKYS004 Lead sea Kayaking activities in enclosed waters

SISOKYS005 Lead sea Kayaking activities in sheltered coastal waters

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

COURSE FEES:

●                   15years old or over?

●                   no longer at school?

●                   living or working in NSW?

●                   an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen?

 

This course is currently included in the NSW Fee Free initiative, however places are limited and fee free training is not guaranteed.  

Equipment:

What to bring:

●                   Notepad and pen

●                   Waterproof dry bags

●                   Whistle

●                   Compass

●                   Food, drinks, and snacks for each day

●                   Paddling clothing: choose a range of lightweight and heavier thermal protection, sun smart options for warmer days, hat, suncream, waterproof and windproof clothing.

 

Supplied:

Sea kayak or sit on top kayak, PFD and Paddle.
