The course is designed for those who work in the wilderness tourist / education industry in a leadership capacity or who are preparing to do so and require the skills and knowledge to provide advanced first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders and provide first aid to a casualty in a remote and/or isolated situation until the arrival of medical or other assistance. It is intended for those wishing to provide first aid in remote areas.
LENGTH OF COURSE
Pre theory course work & 3 days practical and assessment – recertification/upgrade pathway.
The following Skill Set has been identified through consultation with the Outdoor Council of Australia (OCA), the peak body for the Outdoor Recreation industry and will be utilised as the basis for the registration requirements of programs like the National Outdoor Leader Registration Scheme (NOLRS). This course is also known as Remote Area First Aid which course satisfies the Code of Practice – First Aid in the Workplace and NSW Adventure Activity Standards.
There are no stated prerequisites for this course but you are required to
- complete the online training prior to commencement of the course.
- print your theory certificate and
- attend all three days practical & assessment
- have previously held a remote area or wilderness first aid qualification.

The fee for this course is $425
Associated course costs: Due to the practical nature of the course, participants are advised to wear clothing appropriate for outdoor activities. You will be required to bring the following items:
- Day pack
- Closed cell or inflatable sleeping mat
- Appropriate outdoor style of clothing
- Sunscreen and hat
- Your own food and drinks

Assessment for this course requires successful completion of:
- pre course material prior to course commencement
- a written theory test
- ongoing practical first aid responses.

There are no early exit points for this course of study.
Students are issued with course learning materials, workbooks and handouts relevant to each unit.
