The course is designed for those who require a wilderness first aid qualification. It is considered the industry standard for those who work as Outdoor Guides, Activity Instructors, PE teachers who conduct outdoor activities, those who work in rural or remote areas such as farmers, the mining industry. It is also suitable for the outdoor enthusiast, those who guide remote 4WD tours, extended trips.
Length of Course
5 days practical and assessment + Pre course theory work
The following Skill Set has been identified through consultation with the Outdoor Council of Australia (OCA), the peak body for the Outdoor Recreation industry and will be utilised as the basis for the registration requirements of programs like the National Outdoor Leader Registration Scheme (NOLRS). This course is also known as Remote Area First Aid which course satisfies the Code of Practice – First Aid in the Workplace and NSW Adventure Activity Standards.

You are required to:
• complete the online training prior to commencement of the course.
• print your theory certificate and
• attend all three days practical & assessment.

Associated course costs: Due to the practical nature of the course, participants are advised to wear clothing appropriate for outdoor activities. You will be required to bring the following items:
• Day pack
• Closed cell or inflatable sleeping mat
• Appropriate outdoor style of clothing
• Sunscreen and hat
• Its self catered so food and drink

• Steps of Accident Management
• Pulse Oximetry
• Treating Trauma related injuries
• Traction Splinting
• Reduction of Dislocations
• New Head Injury Assessment
• Cardiac arrest
• External haemorrhage
• Fractures, sprains, strains
• Unconscious casualty
• Performing CPR
• Using a AED
• Snake, spider bites
• Heat & Cold related illness
Assessment for this course requires successful completion of:
• pre course material prior to course commencement
• a written theory test
• ongoing practical first aid responses.
(note you will be required to perform 4 minutes of CPR on a manikin placed on the floor)
Please wear comfortable clothing to the workshop as some of the practical skills require you to kneel and lay down on the floor.
For the practical assessment you will role play with another student as your casualty
